HAI PHONG – The chairman and deputy chairman of Tien Lang District People's Committee were removed from their post yesterday following an unlawful land withdrawal that has received widespread public attention during the past month, according to a decision from the Hai Phong City Party Committee.
A meeting held yesterday announced the city's decision, as Le Van Hien, former chairman of Tien Lang District People's Committee, offered an apology and took full responsibility for the affair and the misconduct of local authorities in revoking the land of 49-year-old farmer Doan Van Vuon last month.
Deputy secretary of Hai Phong's Committee Nguyen Thi Nghia said the case at Tien Lang provided a critical lesson for every member of the Tien Lang District and other local authorities involved in public affairs.
Hai Phong City authorities also asked Tien Lang District to continue implementing the Government's decision, which was issued earlier this month. The Prime Minister concluded that relevant agencies must resolve the Tien Lang conflict, in which local authorities wanted to withdraw more than 40 hectares of land allocated to farmer Vuong in 1993. - VNS
