Viet Nam joins NAM efforts to promote gender equality

Update: February, 15/2012 - 09:52

HA NOI — The Vietnamese Government would continue to finalise and promote the implementation of policies and laws on gender equality in line with international commitments, said Deputy Foreign Minister Le Luong Minh at the third Non-alignment Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting on the Advancement of Women in Doha, Qatar, which ended yesterday.

Viet Nam was committed to continuing contributions to the joint efforts of the NAM for the advancement of women, he said.

Viet Nam had actively participated in co-operation activities for the advancement of women and children within the ASEAN framework through the adoption of the Ha Noi Declaration on increasing social welfare and development for women and children and the establishment of the ASEAN committee on protecting and promoting rights of women and children in 2010, Minh added.

Viet Nam would increase its co-operation and share experiences with NAM member countries to effectively implement the Doha Declaration and Plan.

Minh called on NAM member countries to strive for more efforts to promote the role and position of women in society.

The three-day meeting drew the participation of more than 300 delegates from NAM member countries and international organisations. — VNS
