HA NOI — The procuracy sector should accelerate the settlement of key cases and those attracting public attention, and devise a project to renew the organisational system of People's Procuracies at all levels and enhance personnel training, said President Truong Tan Sang.
Speaking at the Supreme People's Procuracy conference held to launch tasks for 2012 in Ha Noi yesterday, Sang praised the procuracy sector's efforts in the past year, saying that the sector worked closely with other judicial agencies to improve investigation and prosecution activities as well as the enforcement of court verdicts. It played an active part in dealing with big corruption cases with a high degree of complexity, winning the public's praise.
"The procuracy sector has played an important part in maintaining political security, social order and safety, and protecting the socialist law, the lawful rights and interests of organisations and citizens, as well as contributed to the country's achievements in 2011," he said.
However, the President pointed out some weaknesses in the procuracy sector including inactive implementation of rights and responsibilities in procuracy activities, works in denunciation, and information and discovery about criminals, especially those related to corruption. He also pointed out the existence of wrongly accused or prosecuted cases.
"The sector should seriously review, criticise, learn lessons and develop proactive measures to gradually enhance the quality and effectiveness of the practice of procuracy rights and inspection of procuracy activities in the coming time," he added.
The President asked the sector to review 20 years of implementation of the 1992 Constitution with a focus on areas relating to the procuracy sector in order to propose ideas for amendments and supplements to the Party and State. — VNS
