Party delegation attends Kuala Lumpur conference

HA NOI — A delegation of the Communist Party of Viet Nam attended the 15th International Conference of Asian Political Parties held in Kuala Lumpur from May 5 to 7.

Delegates from 18 major political parties in Asia that are members of the ICAPP Standing Committee, reviewed activities discussed at the last conference in December 2010 and discussed regional and international issues of concern.

Delegates called on both sides to end the recent conflict between Cambodia and Thailand and respect international laws and the United Nations Charter. They emphasised that the ICAPP is willing to play a key role in dealing with the situation in order to restore the Cambodia-Thailand border to normal peaceful conditions.

The ICAPP also worked with the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), to organise an international seminar on natural disasters and environmental protection with the participation of 35 delegates.

At the conference, deputy head of the CPV Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, Vuong Thua Phong delivered a speech to highlight Party and State policies and shared Viet Nam's experiences in disaster prevention.

The conference issued the Kuala Lumpur Declaration, calling on Asian political parties to strengthen international co-operation in preventing natural disasters. — VNA
