Party Central Committee prepares for 200 members

HA NOI — As many as 175 official and 25 alternate members will be elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) for the 11th tenure.

All delegates at the 11th National Congress of the CPV unanimously agreed on the numbers of official and alternate members at a plenary session on personnel plans Saturday morning.

On behalf of the Congress Presidium, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh chaired the plenary session.

Ho Duc Viet, Politburo member, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and head of its Commission for Organisation, presented the 10th Party Central Committee's report on personnel plans for the 11th Party Central Committee.

General Secretary Manh highlighted a number of notes regarding personnel plans for the 11th Party Central Committee.

The delegates then discussed the criteria and structure, and studied documents concerning personnel plans for the 11th Party Central Committee.

They continued to work on the personnel plans for the 11th Party Central Committee yesterday.

Some of the delegates shared opinions about personnel issues on the sidelines of the 11th Party Congress.

They said they believed the CPV's new Central Committee would consist of the most deserving and qualified members who would be able to fulfil the heavy responsibilities that the Party and people have entrusted on the members.

Delegate Nguyen Duc Kien, deputy secretary of Soc Trang Province's Party Committee, said the personnel plans for the 11th Party Congress were scrutinised carefully at Party congresses at lower levels.

He said the 10th Party Central Committee, municipal and provincial Party congresses had shown responsibility in casting confidential votes for Central Committee candidates.

The number of nominees holding university and post-university degrees were increasing. In addition, more candidates were ethnic minority people, Kien said.

Central Committee members must enhance the country's fighting spirit and responsibility in order to make sound decisions and implement them with determination, Kien said. They must know how to organise and gain people's support, he added.

Delegate Nguyen Manh Hien, deputy secretary of Hai Duong Province's Party Committee, said the 11th Party Congress's decision to elect 175 official and 25 alternate members to the Central Committee for the 11th tenure was suitable with reality.

The 10th Party Central Committee had prepared personnel plans for the 11th tenure carefully, he said. Nominees must accomplish their tasks with excellent results and such evaluations must be approved by the 10th Party Central Committee.

Hien said he believed that the 11th Party Congress would be able to elect the most deserving and exemplary delegates fit to lead the country for the next five years. Among them, the number of female delegates must be higher than that of the 10th tenure, he added.

Delegate Huynh Minh Chac said Central Committee candidates must be true to their ideals and loyal to the Party, the motherland and the nation.

All tasks would be implemented if they follow that criterion, he said.

The Party continued to receive congratulatory messages from worldwide parties, organisations and friends on the occasion of the 11th National Party Congress, totalling 164 by Friday, according to the External Relations Commission of the CPV Central Committee. —VNS
