ASEAN ministers to meet in Da Lat

HA NOI — The 28th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Energy will be held in the Central Highlands resort city of Da Lat in Lam Dong Province on July 19-23, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Huu Hao announced at a press conference in Ha Noi yeserday.

Slated to discuss energy and climate change issues, the meeting will be attended by 10 ASEAN ministers, representatives of other economic powers in the Asia-Pacific, including China, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, the US and Russia, and business leaders.

The event will be held in conjunction with the 28th ASEAN senior officials meetings on Energy (SOME), Energy+3 Consultations (SOME+3 Consultations), ASEAN+3 Ministers of Energy Meeting, and the ASEAN Energy Awards Night and Gala Dinner and other associated meetings.

The highlight will be the ASEAN Energy Ministers-Enterprises Dialogue, a forum in which firms can set for opportunities and challenges in the energy sector and voice recommendations to ASEAN ministers.

Under the ASEAN Plan Of Action For Energy Co-operation (APAEC) during 2010-15, passed at 27th ASEAN Energy Ministerial Meeting in Myanmar last year, ASEAN countries pledged to join hands to accelerate the development of the ASEAN power grid and a trans-ASEAN gas pipeline.

Other areas of co-operation include coal and clean coal technology, energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy, regional energy policy and planning civilian nuclear energy. —VNS
