Viet Nam-Laos border gate receives revamp

KON TUM — The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum yesterday opened and handed over to Laos a revamped check-point at an international border gate between the two countries.

The Phu Cua Border Gate, located near the Bo Y Border Gate, which is the important eastern border gate in neighbouring Laos, was first built in 2009 with VND29.5 billion (US$1.5 million) offered in aid by the Vietnamese Government.

The check-point plays an important role in facilitating trade between the two border provinces of Kon Tum and Attapu, as well as the two countries as a whole, further consolidating bilateral ties.

It will also stimulate co-operation between Central Highlands provinces and southern provinces of Laos and tap potential in three-way trade between Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia.

The decision to upgrade Bo Y and Phu Cua as international border gates was taken by both governments in 2008. —VNS
