PHÚ QUỐC —Radisson Blu Resort Phú Quốc has begun growing bamboo at a farm near the beach for making straws.

Its “BLU GOES GREEN” campaign for eco-friendly initiatives also include the use of electric vehicles and recycling used soaps into fresh soap for distribution to local communities.

“We’ve said no to plastic straws since day one when we opened in August 2018,” Marko Janssen, general manager of the resort, said, pointing out Phú Quốc has a sensitive environment.

The resort is working with a local business, Bamboo Step, which has experience in growing and making bamboo straws, to take care of the farm.

Initially around fifty plants will be harvested after one year.

Guests staying at the resort can learn about bamboo production and how the straws are handcrafted, and can also buy them. —VNS
