Next Week: Which is better – app-based motorbike taxi services or traditional xe ôm?
It’s become common for Vietnamese residents to use motorbike taxi mobile services like Grabbike or UberMoto. Several users said they are more convenient, their prices are more reasonable and their drivers offer better customer service.
As this technology becomes popular, traditional motorbike taxi drivers in Việt Nam (called xe ôm) claim to be losing roughly 50 per cent of their monthly income. In Indonesia, thousands of traditional taxi drivers put on a strike earlier this year against these new services.
Have you used both forms of motorbike taxi service in Việt Nam? Which do you think is better? Will the motorbike taxi apps heighten competition and help ease traffic congestion? Or should the Government intervene to make room for traditional drivers?
