Next week: Would you quit eating rice?

Statistics Korea on Tuesday revealed that consumption of rice, the staple of the Korean diet, is half of what it was 30 years ago.

Researchers from the country said the reason for the fact is because many Korean now prefer Westernized diets and a shift to more healthy meals.

With more people becoming health conscious and starting diets, many Koreans are uneasy about eating carbohydrates such as rice, they said.

Rice has been the main dish in many Asian countries, including Việt Nam, since forever. As nutrition experts advise people on eating healthier, this tradition is changing, not necessarily because people don’t like rice anymore. But many other experts say most of us require some level of carbohydrates to function at our best in the long term.
