The plan to build a 13m-tall information and culture centre next to Hoan Kiem Lake, the most iconic landmark of Ha Noi, drew a lot of criticism from the Vietnamese public.

Planners say the centre will improve tourists' experience by providing all the information they need about the capital.

However, architects condemn the move, saying it would kill the best part of the old city.

What do you think about the idea of such a centre? If you have visited Ha Noi's Hoan Kiem Lake, do you think an information centre would have improved your experience? Do you rely on physical information centres or web searches when visiting a new place?
