Foreign passengers on connection flights or transit at international seaports will be allowed to stay in Viet Nam for up to 15 days instead of the current five from August 14, according to new Ministry of Public Security regulations.

The application procedure for the new US$5 transit permits, which are much cheaper than tourist visas, will be simple, timesaving, economic and conducted by travel agents on tourists' behalf.

Chairman of the Viet Nam Travel Association Vu The Binh said that the move is aimed at attracting more transit tourists, reported to remain very few, to Viet Nam.
