HCM City plans to set up 35 inspection teams to respond to public complaints of corruption, Lam Dinh Chien, head of the inspection department, told Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Sai Gon).
Many State-owned companies and corporations under the city administration have not been operating effectively, if not causing serious losses. Will the inspection sector focus on these companies?
Through inspections we found that many State-run enterprises have not been operating efficiently in terms of management and capacity, causing huge losses to the State budget. Therefore, the plan is to set up six inspection teams to target these enterprise along with two inspection teams to inspect the chief officers' roles in preventing corruption. The purpose is to make clear the responsibility of the COs and to use information gathered to correct and improve weaknesses in management.
Many serious cases of corruption which have been discovered were not revealed by the present inspection division. Why?
Corruption has been uncovered in the fields of construction, land, State budget, enterprise management and so on, but not by the inspection agencies. It means inspection has not proven effective enough. This year the inspection sector will be strengthened.
Why is the number of complaints about corruption high while the number of corruption cases discovered limited?
The main reason is that local authorities have failed to resolve many complaints and accusation from people regarding corruption.
This year, the inspection sector promises to improve the processing of complaints about corruption. By doing this we can contribute to boost the economy, stabilise society and better achieve the targets of the city's socio-economic development. — VNS
