HCM CITY — The 300-year-old Hoi Son Pagoda in HCM City's Nguyen Xien Street was badly damaged in a fire on Tuesday night.
The incident happened after a power cut.
Statues of Buddha and the Bodhisatvas, several altars and many books were destroyed. No injuries and deaths were reported, said Abbot Thich Thien Hao.
Extinguishing the fire was difficult because the pagoda is on a hill. Investigation of the fire cause is ongoing. The pagoda was listed as a national architecture relic in 1993. — VNS
