Update: June, 08/2012 - 10:01
HA TINH — A rare tarantula never before reported in Viet Nam was found in April in a remote part of the central province of Ha Tinh, according to Le Ba Hanh, deputy director of the Ha Tinh Museum.

"We found the spider while clearing bushes at some ancient stone ramparts near the mountainous district of Tram Huong," said Hanh.

The tarantula was about 6cm by 3cm wide, and weighed 6g. The insect has two large front teeth that are each 10mm in length.

Hanh said the tarantula belonged to the theraphosidae family. He added its venom was so toxic that it could kill a human. — VNS
