Update: March, 16/2012 - 09:52

DAK NONG — Six people were killed after a boat carrying 12 people sunk on Krong No River in central Dak Nong Province on Tuesday evening.

Passengers included the boatman and a team of 11 staff members and engineers employed by the Dak Lak Branch of HCM City-based Monsanto JSC.

The overloaded boat was designed to carry only three people at a time and had no life jackets onboard.

The local oarsman and five other people were the only survivors.

The boat went under due to a torrent of water released by the Buon Tua Sarh Hydropower Plant, on its way to Ea R'Bin Commune in Lak District of Dak Lak Province.

Local authorities are continuing the search for the four missing bodies. . — VNS
