Fishing vessel struck by Malaysian ship

SOC TRANG — A crew of 12 Vietnamese fishermen were rescued by border guards yesterday after their vessel was hit by a Malaysian ship off the coast of southern Soc Trang Province.

The Vietnamese vessel sank as a result of the collision with the Malaysian ship, which was heading towards Thailand.

The foreign ship is now being held while authorities investigate the matter. Losses for the Soc Trang vessel were estimated at VND1 billion (US$47,600). — VNS
