Ha Noi— A cyber attack disrupted access to the website of the nation's leading internet security firm today.
Bkav's website, located at www.bkav.com.vn, has experienced a denial of service attack since last Saturday night.
An initial attack on the site was spotted by a member of the Bkav forum last Friday, but the attacks persisted during the weekend. This morning, a Vietnam Plus reporter who tried to access the site confirmed that access was still disrupted.
Director of Bkav's security division Nguyễn Minh Đức confirmed with Vietnam Plus that Bkav was experiencing a denial of service attack.
Duc said that while Bkav was trying to counter the attack, visitors to the site whose computers have been compromised by ‘botnets' may continue to have problems accessing the Bkav site.
Duc said hackers had attacked Bkav many times before, but the current attack was on a large scale. Bkav is currently working with relevant agencies to investigate the attack and find those responsible.
Earlier, in October, 2008, Bkav had also been attacked by a powerful denial of service attack that utilised about 1,000 computers, making the Bkav site inaccessible. --VNS
