Award-winning movie Pao's Story has kicked off the Vietnamese film festival in Perth, Australia to mark the 40th anniversary since diplomatic relations of the two countries.

HA NOI (VNS) – Award-winning movie Pao's Story has kicked off the Vietnamese film festival in Perth, Australia as part of celebrations marking the 40th anniversary since diplomatic relations were formed between Australia and Viet Nam.

Through movies such as Pao's Story and the documentary Viet Nam on the Development, organisers expect to portray an image of Viet Nam's beautiful and rich culture.

The winner of two Golden Kite Awards for best film and best actress from the Viet Nam Cinematography Association, Pao's Story, which also won a Special Award at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Taiwan, depicts an ethnic girl on the verge of adulthood.

When her mother is abruptly swept away by a violent flood, Pao's life is drastically altered. The catastrophic accident devastates Pao's family, and as the story shifts back twenty years to a time before Pao was born, it becomes evident that her family past is not as it seems.

The movies have been showcased on an outdoor screen at Northbride Piazza. – VNS
