HCM CITY -- More than 1,500 German titles are on display at an exhibition of German books that opened at the Fahasa bookstore on HCM City’s Nguyễn Huê Street on September 29.

They include textbooks, dictionaries, children’s books and works of literature imported from six major German publishers.

The exhibition is aimed at meeting the rising demand from students at German language teaching centres and the German community in Việt Nam.

On display are classics like Wihelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller, who was dubbed the “Shakespeare of German literature” and the Sorrows of the Young Werther and Faust by renowned writer Johann Goethe.

There are also popular modern works such as The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, The Best of Me, The Lucky One, The Choice by Nicholas Sparks, Games of Thrones by George R. R. Martin, and Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon.

Fahasa also opened the country’s first German-language bookshop at its Nguyễn Huê store.

The exhibition was held in co-ordination with the Goethe Institute in HCM City to celebrate Germany’s 27th national day.

Last week Fahasa said it has signed deals with more than 200 major global publishers, including Oxford, Cambridge, Pearson, McGraw-Hill, MacMillan, Cengage Learning, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, Hachette Édition, Larousse, Clé International, and Kinokunya.

Early in September Fahasa opened in Hà Nội its 100th store.VNS
