HÀ NỘI — Thirty South Korean teenagers are in Hà Nội as part of the ASEAN Youth Leader Programme 2019.

The programme held by Korean Foundation’s ASEAN Cultural House in Busan and Hà Nội from August 3 to 11 aims to give Korean youngsters the chance to learn about Vietnamese culture.

Students visited Văn Miếu (Literature Temple), Việt Nam Musem of Ethnology and Việt Nam Fine Arts Museum.

The students will use what they have learned to create art with the help of Korean artists. The work will be displayed in October at ASEAN Cultural House in Busan.

They also met with Vietnamese students from Hà Nội National University’s High School and will visit Vietnamese families.

Fifteen of the Korean students are from multi-cultural families including three with Vietnamese mothers.

The programme is part of the preparations for the Korea-ASEAN Summit scheduled to be held in Busan this November.

It is organised with the support of the Korean Ministry of Women and Family in co-operation with the Korea Family Health Development Institute.

‘Multicultural family policy is not simply to support families to stabilise their lives but we need to promote exchanges between Korea and ASEAN countries,” said Ham Seung-hoon, ASEAN Cultural House’s director.

“The participants will have the opportunity to become future leaders of the two countries.”

Hà Nội was chosen as the first destination as Việt Nam is a strategic partner and a key point in Korea's South policy with close ties with South Korea.

The ASEAN Cultural House establishment is one of the achievements of the 2014 Korea-ASEAN summit. Since its establishment, the house has had many cultural, academic and humanitarian exchanges which popularise and promote the role of ASEAN to Korean people. — VNS
