German play to be performed in Hà Nội

An excerpt of Woyzeck, a play written by German doctor and poet Georg Buchner (1813-37) will be performed by Vietnamese artists on May 12.

 

HÀ NỘI — An excerpt of Woyzeck, a play written by German doctor and poet Georg Buchner (1813-37) will be performed by Vietnamese artists on May 12.

It is a story about poor people, loneliness and mental illness in German society in the 18th century.

It was first performed in 1913 in Munich. Since then, it has been translated into numerous languages and reinterpreted many times. It is one of the most influential German dramas.

Under the direction of Nguyễn Sĩ Tiến and with translation by researcher Thái Kim Lan, Woyzeck will be presented in a public reading by actors of the Youth Theatre.

The show will take place at Goethe Institute, 56-58 Nguyễn Thái Học Street, Hà Nội. Entry is free. — VNS
