HÀ NỘI — The second Vietnamese Film Days in Korea has been launched in Seoul with the screening of movie Cô Ba Sài Gòn (The Tailor).
The three-day event which concludes on Saturday is co-organised by the Việt Nam Cinema Department and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) under South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The Vietnamese Cinema Department and Korean Cinema Commission selected Vietnamese movies Em Chưa 18 (Jailbait), Cô Gái Đến Từ Hôm Qua (The Girl from Yesterday) and Cô Ba Sài Gòn (The Tailor). These award-winning movies had proven popular among Vietnamese film lovers and had earned high revenues, according to Lý Phương Dung, deputy head of Cinema Department.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, chairman of the KOFIC, Oh Seok Geun, said: “ With the hallyu wave (Korean wave), many Vietnamese have known of Korea, its cinema and K-pop. On the other hand, there needs to have wider and deeper cooperation and exchange between the two countries so that Korean people understand more about Việt Nam.”
Jailbait’s director Lê Thanh Sơn said he was proud to be at the event and happy that his film had gone beyond Việt Nam.
About 160,000 Vietnamese people are currently living, studying and working in South Korea, among which 50,000 are Vietnamese ‘brides’, so cultural exchanges are needed for Koreans to understand more about Việt Nam. — VNS
