HÀ NỘI — Artistic sculptures of flowers and birds have been on display at an exhibition in Hà Nội since June 15.

“Season of Flowers and Birds” will feature artworks by famous sculptors Trần An and Thái Nhật Minh.

Given the title of the exhibition, An’s choice of material is slightly unusual – welded iron. Inspired by nature, the artist has mastered welding to create tree trunks, sprouts and flower buds – full of life yet tough and strong.

Minh’ inspiration, on the other hand, is drawn from mythical birds only found in folk tales that represent the artist’s emotions, reminisce about the past and express his own take on the four seasons. Using papier-mache, he has created strong yet natural figures.

Both of the artists graduated from the Việt Nam University of Fine Arts and have years of experience, winning top prizes at local exhibitions and participating at international events.

The exhibition will run until July 7 at eSpace Coworking, Savina Building, 1 Đinh Lễ Street, Hà Nội.

On the same day, Gió Lào (tropical wind), a group of young artists from the Huế University of Fine Arts, also opened an exhibition in the capital.

The exhibition will run until June 20 at the Việt Nam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyễn Thái Học Street.

Gió Lào is a group of 10 artists born in the 80s, growing up in the same region characterised by its tropical wind.

This is the group’s third exhibition together but their first in Hà Nội. Their previous exhibitions were held in HCM City.

Gió Lào’s trademarks include self portraits, the ancient yet modern cultural and architectural identity of Huế Citadel; post-war life, religion, beliefs and politics; as well as subtle implications in the works of Nguyễn Đình Việt, Nguyễn Văn Hè, Nguyễn Hoàng Trang, Trần Thế Vĩnh, Trần Ngọc Bảy, Vũ Duy Tâm, Hồ Hưng and Nguyễn An.

The exhibition will also feature sculptures and an installation artwork by Nguyễn An and Nguyễn Văn Hè with a visual language emphasising personal emotions, edgy monologues, the exploration of one’s destiny in the modern age, our living space, the heritage of Huế Royal Citadel, and nature in central Việt Nam with its miraculous tropical breeze. — VNS
