HÀ NỘI — Writer Trần Nhương is showcasing his latest paintings at an exhibition entitled Thi Hứng (Inspired by Poetry).

A total 40 large paintings depicting the artist’s perspectives on life, as well as nudity, still life and portraits are painted with watercolour, canvas and ink.

Nguyễn Quang Thiều remarked that Nhương is a free person; he is free in his poetry, as well as in his novels and painting.

“We see the freedom in strokes, colours and content in each painting. It’s necessary in creativity.”

“We don’t just discover the world of Nhương, but through his paintings, we also discover our own worlds,” said Thiều.

Painter Lê Thanh Minh said that Nhương was working as a poet when they met 30 years ago in Moscow. With the eyes and senses of a professional artist, Minh highly appreciated Nhương’s paintings.

“Nhương never wants to paint works for the sake of fame,” said Minh. “He just wants to express the feelings and stories that literature can’t help him speak out.”

Nhương was born in 1941. He is known as a poet and a writer, with much devotion for national literature. Though he calls himself an amateur painter, he has had many joint and solo exhibitions since 1998.

The exhibition will run until May 12 at Exhibition House, 16 Ngô Quyền Street, Hà Nội. — VNS
