HCM CITY – The HCM City annual Tết (Lunar New Year) Book Fair will open in District 1 from February 13-19 (from December 28 to January 4 on the lunar calendar).

Nine local major publishers and book distributors, including Trẻ (Youth), Phan Thị, Phương Nam and Fahasa, along with the General Sciences Library and the HCM City Museum, will feature their products.

More than 20,000 copies of books on literature, history, economy, and politics will be on sale. A kids’ zone for children’s books and traditional games will also be set up.

Several exhibitions will display books, documents and photos of President Hồ Chí Minh and the Mậu Thân Offensive 1968, and the development of the 320-year-old HCM City.

An exhibition on the Hoàng Sa and Trường Sa Islands will showcase new documents and publications offered by the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Dozens of special publications for Tết by the city’s major newspapers and magazines like Trẻ (Youth), Thanh Niên (Young People) and Sài Gòn Giải Phóng (Liberated Sài Gòn) will be displayed at the fair.

There will be several talks between authors and cultural experts and readers and visitors will be held during the event.

Võ Văn Long, deputy director of the HCM City’s Department of Information and Communications, said: “This year’s book fair has the theme of Khu Vườn Trí Thức (Garden of Knowledge), aiming to promote the reading habit and knowledge of city’s residents in Tết.”

The fair will be set up at Mạc Thị Bưởi, Nguyễn Huệ and Ngô Đức Kế streets in District 1. VNS
