HCM CITY — Young Vietnamese singers — Min, Sơn Tùng and Hương Tràm, whose hits have garnered millions of views on Youtube — dominate the top five in all categories of the Zing Music Awards 2017, the organisation board revealed at a press conference recently.

The Zing Music Awards 2017 is divided into three categories — awards of the year, awards of musical genres and awards voted on by the community – which have 14 sub-categories.

Young emerging singer Min has taken the lead with eight nominations. The success of her two songs Ghen (Jealousy) and Có Em Chờ (I Will be Waiting) has helped the singer earn nominations in many significant sub-categories, such as the Song of the Year, Artiste of the Year, MV of the Year and Favourite Female Artiste.

Following Min is male singer Sơn Tùng with seven nominations and Soobin with six nominations. Meanwhile, singer Hương Tràm has moved from the top ten to top five with five nominations. Having broken the record in Việt Nam’s musical industry of being the most heard song during the 10-year development of the country’s digital music, with constant presence in the top #zingchart, the song Em Gái Mưa (The Rain Sister) has ensured a successful year for the singer.

The top five also witnessed fierce competition between two Vietnamese hits, Em Gái Mưa (The Rain Sister) of Hương Tràm, with 254 million hits, and Lạc Trôi (Floating) by Sơn Tùng, with 232 million hits on the Zing MP3 website.

From among the top five, the awards of the year will be selected by the Art Council, and the artistes will be honoured at the awarding ceremony, which will be held at Hòa Bình Theatre on January 24.

Zing Music Awards (ZMA) is an annual online music award, organised by Zing MP3, with the aim to honour the artistes’ efforts and get an overall picture of the Vietnamese temporary musical market, as well as the tastes of online music listeners.

The awards depend on the statistics of #zingchart of Zing MP3 to prepare the nomination lists. The Art Council and the audience then vote for the winning songs and artistes in each categories.

ZMA is considered the most prestigious award in the Vietnamese musical industry, balancing professionalism and commercial success. It is also the first and only online music awards in Việt Nam. — VNS
