First Italian - ASEAN Week kicks off

A series of cultural and art activities will take place in the pedestrian streets around Sword Lake this weekend to kick off the first Italian - ASEAN Week launched by the Italian embassy.

HÀ NỘI — A series of cultural and art activities will take place in the pedestrian streets around Hoàn Kiếm (Sword) Lake this weekend to kick off the first Italian - ASEAN Week launched by the Italian embassy. 

An Italian Trail will depart from central Lý Thái Tổ Square and will visit many other places in the centre to introduce Italian culture to local people. The trail will take the public along an exclusively designed path enriched by booths for Italian food and wine tasting with the participation of the Italian gastronomic champions in Hà Nội and exhibitions of Italian design creations. 

Musical performances by Italians artists and Hà Nội University students including an original show on the Renaissance will be staged at Lý Thái Tổ Square. 

The Italian - ASEAN Week has been launched by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affaires as a unique initiative in ASEAN member countries from November 20 to 26. Within this extraordinary framework and benefiting from the unique season the Italian embassy will showcase a full spectrum of the best of Italian lifestyle and bring Italy closer to the Vietnamese. 

"Activities will be held in seven ASEAN member countries in the context of developing diplomatic relationships," said ambassador Cecilia Piccioni. "We are glad to introduce our typical cultural characteristics to people from ASEAN. The week expects to lure people who want to know more about Italian culture".

The week will also include scientific and linguistic conferences; as well as concerts and food tasting. 

Award-winning pianist Nazareno Ferruggio will duet with Vietnamese pianist Phạm Quỳnh Trang at Việt Nam Youth Theatre on November 23. The second week of the Italian cuisine in the world will be held on December 4 featuring young Italian chef Marco Gallota from Rome. He will introduce to the Vietnamese some traditional Italian recipes offering a unique experience of Italian-Asian gastronomic fusion. 

On this occasion, Italian films will be screened at Casa Italia - the centre for Italian culture promotion at the weekend and a painting exhibition by Laura Federici will be held there. — VNS
