City to light up for National Day

HCM CITY— HCM City streets will be lined with LED lights in celebration of the 72nd anniversary of National Day on September 2.

The main streets in districts 1 and 3, including Hàm Nghi, Tôn Đức Thắng, Lê Duẩn and Phạm Ngọc Thạch, will be illuminated with many coloured lights tonight.

Light performances will take place at the Opera House, Nhà Rồng Wharf and HCM City Hall on September 2.  

Cultural centres and park will be alive with festivities, including music and song programmes at the Youth Cultural Centre and Suối Tiên Tourist Park this weekend.

“We hope our shows will attract more than 10,000 students and labourers,” said Bùi Thanh Liêm, director of the Youth Cultural House.

  Dozens of music and theatre performances, from Bông Sen Theatre of Song and Dance and the Trần Hữu Trang Cải Lương Theatre, will be featured.

The first shows will begin on Saturday night.

The Đầm Sen Theme Park will offer new variety shows at its circus theatre of 1,000 seats during the holiday. The shows include more than 150 circus, puppet, dance and theatre performers.

Cinemas and theatres are now preparing for their business season which is expected to attract thousands of youth, including people from southern provinces.

The Hồng Vân Drama Club and Phú Nhuận Drama Club, two leading private drama troupes, will stage comedies every night from August 26 to September 3.

Two Vietnamese films will be released this weekend to compete with foreign productions in the holiday.
