HÀ NỘI — Japan’s Happy Dream Circus will start performing in Hà Nội from September 1, with a special show featuring Argentinian flying motorcycle artist Dirce Lucia Reyes.

The circus will bring to Hà Nội 12 international artists from Japan, Venezuela, Argentina, Columbia, Mexico, Ecuador and Chile.

This is the first time that spectators in Hà Nội will get to watch Reyes. She is one of the few performers in the world to ride motorcycle inside a steel cage ball, and her flying motorcycle performance will be a highlight of the show.

“I have performed a variety of acts, and now, I have chosen the flying motorcycle act,” the artist said. “It is really adventurous, and perhaps dangerous. Even one small mistake will be a risk to the performer and co-performers. It’s the danger that stimulates me. I hope local spectators will enjoy my performance.”

Other performers include Colombia’s Alan Martinez whose tightrope walk is hugely popular. In 2007 and 2010, Martinez got the Guinness World Record for the longest skywalk.

The troupe will present a variety of acts, including acrobatics, juggling, globe of death, flying trapeze, circles of death, and Japanese drum performance.

Artists from Happy Dream Circus and the Việt Nam Circus Federation, including Meritorious Artists Tiến Hưng and Mạnh Cường, and young animal circus artist Tạ Duy Lâm will also perform several routines together.

Established in 2003, the Japanese troupe is known for its international performers and special repertoires. “Happy Dream Circus and the federation worked together for six months for the show in Hà Nội,” said People’s Artist Tạ Duy Ánh, the federation’s director.

The troupe’s stage equipment has already arrived in the capital city. The show will begin on September 1 and run to December 1 at the National Circus Federation, 67 Trần Nhân Tông Street.

Happy Dream Circus will tour the nation between December 2, 2017, and April 1, 2018. — VNS
