HCM CITY — Vietnamese- American musician Vũ Thành An, 74, begins a five-city tour in Việt Nam this week. 

An will hold a fan meeting at Book Street (Nguyễn Văn Bình Street) in HCM City today before flying to Quy Nhơn City for his first show.

He will then move to Quảng Ngãi Province and Đà Nẵng City.

The shows will feature veteran singers, Vietnamese-Americans Vũ Khanh and Thanh Lan, both of whom were famous in the 1960s and 70s. 

Young singers Lân Nhã and Lệ Ngọc will also be included.

His show, Chuyện Tình Không Tên (Unnamed Love Story), will be staged at the Majestic Hotel Saigon in HCM City on August 18. 

The event will include Vietnamese-American singer Quang Dũng and the girl band 5 Dòng Kẻ. 

He will close his tour with two concerts, called Tình Ca Vũ Thành An-Vàng Son Một Thuở (Vũ Thành An’s Love Songs-Once Golden Melodies), in Hà Nội. 

Vietnamese-American singers Bằng Kiều and Thanh Lan will be featured.

The singers will perform An’s 21 songs, including 10 love songs called Bài Không Tên (Untitled Songs), which have been popular for more than five decades.  

Born in 1943 in Nam Định Province, An moved to Sài Gòn in 1960.

His first song, Tình Khúc Thứ Nhất (First Love Song), with lyrics by poet Nguyễn Đình Toàn, became a top hit. 

His first album, Những Bài Không Tên (Untitled Songs), released in 1969, impressed  audiences. He has written more than 120 songs, mostly love songs.  

After An left Việt Nam in 1991 to live in Portland, Oregon, he began composing anthems and working for charities.  

His shows in Quảng Ngãi Province and Đà Nẵng are expected to be held on Friday and Saturday.
