HCM CITY — The Voice of HCM City People (VOH) radio station plans to open a new opera house called Music One this month.

The Music One opera house, which is an upgraded version of the old VOH hall, will feature 350 seats with a brand-new lighting and music system.

The lobby, which has been redecorated in a cozy, elegant style, will be used for musical exhibitions.

The opera house will stage musicals, plays, and performances of đờn ca tài tử (southern folk music) and cải lương (reformed opera), Nguyễn Trọng Trí, deputy director of VOH, said.

“The plan to open the opera house has been on the table for many years, with the aim of building a standard music space where artists can perform and bring the light of theatre and VOH to the public, so they can better appreciate artistic values,” he added.

Musician Đức Thịnh, director of Music One, said that, apart from serving traditional musical performances, the opera house would hold music festivals, singing competitions and other music programmes that engage listeners via radio and social media.

VOH will hold a special musical night to celebrate the launch of Music One opera house on July 15.

In 1997, the VOH radio station launched a radio programme called Làn sóng xanh (Blue Wave) which promoted Vietnamese pop music.

For two decades, the programme has introduced many singers and songwriters who have gained a large following among the public, especially young people.—VNS
