HCM CITY— Nguyễn Huệ Walking Street in HCM City downtown will be alive with street artist performances every Saturday and Sunday night from May 13.

The HCM City Street Show will feature a creative combination of international contemporary performances and Vietnamese traditional culture from three main regions, according to Bùi Tá Hoàng Vũ, director of the city’s Department of Tourism.

“Besides dancing, playing of musical instruments and magic acts, the show will offer beautiful melodies of quan họ (love duet), đờn ca tài tử (southern folk music) and gong ensembles,” Vũ said at a press meeting held on May 8.

Many kinds of street entertainers will perform in the open air space every weekend, drawing both local visitors and foreign tourists.

Each month, the stages set up for the show on the Walking Street will be designed with different concepts to give new experiences to audiences.

Besides performances, the street show will include competitions to create a playground for talented buskers.

Local and foreign individuals as well as groups of street entertainers can register for performances at the weekly show at the Department of Tourism, the show’s organiser.

Huỳnh Phương Duy, a member of the a cappella group The Hoods, said that the show would be a great playground to practise performance techniques and to inspire others to perform and compose songs.
