ĐÀ NẴNG — The Japan-Việt Nam Friendship Association of Japan’s Kawasaki City donated more than 210 bicycles to poor students yesterday, the organisation’s annual charitable donation to Việt Nam.
Usuda Reiko, a member of the association, told Việt Nam News that underprivileged kids in Đà Nẵng’s Cẩm Lệ, Hòa Vang, Ngũ Hành Sơn districts and Quảng Nam Province will benefit from the bicycle donation this year.
She said the association has called Japanese people and more than 12,000 second-hand bicycles have been delivered since 2003.
Đà Nẵng and Hội An boost cultural exchange with Japan annually by hosting the annual Việt Nam-Japan Culture Exchange Festival in August.
Japan plans to open a Consulate General in Đà Nẵng as a way of boosting tourism and exchange between Japan and the central city.
Japanese language teaching has been taught at some junior secondary schools as part of the city’s foreign language teaching programme for 2012-20.
Đà Nẵng also reserved a 1.2ha area for developing the Japan-Việt Nam Culture Centre in Ngũ Hành Sơn District as well as launching direct flights from Đà Nẵng to Osaka. — VNS
