HÀ NỘI — Paternal themed film Father and Son, directed by Lương Đình Dũng, will compete for the Remi Award at the 50th WorldFest Houston.

The festival will be held between April 21 and 30 in Texas, the United States.

Director Dũng confirmed he would participate in the event, which is one of the world’s oldest annual independent film festivals. This year, the event gathers 4,500 films from 74 countries and territories.

Father and Son is an independent movie adapted from Dũng’s short story titled Father and Son, written in 1995.

Though the film is scheduled to be screened in Việt Nam at the end of April, Father and Son has already been screened at nine international film festivals.

WorldFest, the world’s oldest independent film and video festival, was founded over 50 years ago as an International Film Society in August 1961.

It became the third competitive international film festival to be held in North America, following San Francisco and New York.

The event aims to recognise and honour outstanding creative excellence in film and video, validate brilliance, promote cultural tourism for Houston, develop film production in the region and add to the rich cultural fabric of the city of Houston.

Earlier, Father and Son won the Best Feature Film Award at the Canadian Diversity Film Festival (Canada) and Best Camera Award at the Barcelona Planet Film Festival (Spain).

Before joining the WorldFest Houston, the movie will also compete and be screened at the 15th Boston International Film Festival held from April 13 to 17 in Massachusetts, the US.— VNS
