HCM CITY —  The Goethe Institute in Việt Nam is introducing 10 new German films during its Spring Cinema programme in HCM City and Hà Nội.

The programme opened on February 15 with the screening of Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher (Who Am I - No System Is Safe), a 2014 German techno-thriller.

Directed by Baran bo Odar, it features the gifted hacker Benjamin and his hacker group CLAY, who become famous for guerilla actions that cause increasingly serious problems.

The film was the first German thriller to be ranked number 1 in Germany since the 80s.  It was first shown at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film programme also includes adventures, dramas and animated works, including Honig im Kopf (Head Full of Honey) directed by Til Schweiger, Konferenz der Tiere (Animals United) directed by Reinhard Klooss and Hogler Tappe, and Victoria directed by Sebastian Schipper.

Topics include friendship, German lifestyle, and environmental issues.

Nguyễn Thu Hạnh, a representative of Goethe Institute in HCM City, said some of the films introduced last year during the German Film Week were voted the best films by audiences on the institute’s Facebook page.

The free screenings will be held at 7pm every Wednesday for 10 weeks at the Cultural Salon – Saturday Coffee in HCM City’s District 3 and the Goethe Institute in Hà Nội.
