CẦN THƠ — The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Cần Thơ on Tuesday opened the Đinh Dậu flower street to celebrate the Tết (Lunar New Year) festival.

Private investors spent VNĐ6 billion (US$267,000) on the 300-metre area, located on Võ Văn Tần Street in Ninh Kiều District.

The street displays more than 80,000 baskets of flowers and 50 images and decorations, representing relics, heritage sites, famous landscapes and beautiful sites as well as achievements that promote the image of Cần Thơ.

This year, a giant rooster that can move and crow, symbolising prosperity and strength, is located at the main entrance of the street.

The street has been divided into four main sections with different themes and specific designs.

The Chicken and New Spring section displays images of chickens, the mascot of the upcoming New Year, while the fourth is the “Fairy Sea” representing a fairy tale about Mai An Tiêm and the legend of watermelons.

The flower street is open to the public from January 24 to February 3. — VNS
