HCM CITY— One of the most popular charity events in the city, the Giấc Mơ Đêm Mùa Đông (A Dream in Winter Night) concert, will be held tonight at the GEM Centre in District 1.

Many popular singers and dancers will perform at the concert to raise funds for child patients.

The even is organised by the TTT Corporation in co-operation with the Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) newspaper.

The show was an instant hit when it was launched last year, attracting local and foreign organisations as well as residents.

Organisers said this year’s theme, “Working Together for Needy Children at Christmas", was chosen to encourage more people to contribute to charities.

The artists, including students of the music school MPU, will perform folk and traditional music.

Veteran singers Cẩm Vân and Khắc Triệu, and young singers Nhật Hạ, Bích Ngọc and Duyên Huyền are among the performers.

Contemporary pieces choreographed by talented artists Tấn Lộc and Huy Trực will also be part of the performance.

The MPU students choir will perform under young conductor Trần Nhật Minh of the HCM City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera.

More than 200 tickets at VNĐ2 million (US$90) each have already sold out.

Lê Bá Thông, a member of the show’s organising board, said: "Our event received more than VNĐ1.4 billion ($620,000) from organisations and individuals last year.

“Many audience members are close friends of our event and have spent time and money to help disadvantaged children in the country.

"We hope to raise money to help 500 child patients through our event.”

"Giấc Mơ Đêm Mùa Đông encourages people to come together and work for children who are suffering, to help them enjoy a happy Christmas and New Year," said pop diva Hồng Nhung.

The concert will begin at 8.30pm.— VNS
