Chefs from the Bình Qưới Tourist Park No 1 in HCM City have won the first prize in the semi-final of the 2016 Chiếc Thìa Vàng (Golden Spoon) Contest in the southern region.

HCM CITY — Chefs from the Bình Qưới Tourist Park No 1 in HCM City have won the first prize in the semi-final of the 2016 Chiếc Thìa Vàng (Golden Spoon) Contest in the southern region.

Second prizes went to Thành Phát Restaurant in Đắk Lắk Province; Cẩm Thành Hotel in Quảng Ngãi; Restaurant 79 Gia Bảo in Kon Tum; Nhi Restaurant in Cần Thơ; La Veranda Phú Quốc Resort; Palace Hotel Vũng Tàu; Sea Links City Ltd. (Phan Thiết); and Thắng Lợi wedding restaurant (An Giang).

Âu Lạc Thịnh Wedding Restaurant in Khánh Hoà Province won the consolation prize.

There were 28 teams representing hotels and restaurants in HCM City, the Mekong Delta, south-eastern and central provinces and the Central Highlands.

The competition, which has the theme “Hương Vị Quê Nhà - Hành Trình Gia Vi Việt” (Homeland tastes - Journey of Vietnamese Spices) this year, will see the final round held in HCM City on December 6-7 with 15 teams taking part.

The qualifying rounds were held in Hà Nội, HCM City and Đà Nẵng with from June to September.

The other semi-final was held earlier in Hà Nội.

Co-organised by the Việt Nam National Administration, VCCI, the Bình Dương Province-based Minh Long I Co.,  and the Business Support Academy, the contest seeks to find talented chiefs who can create world-class dishes from various regions of the country.

The total prize money at stake this year exceeds VNĐ3 billion (US$135,000). — VNS
