HÀ NỘI — Trịnh Thị Ngọ, a legendary war-time announcer of Radio the Voice of Việt Nam (VOV), has died in HCM City, at the age of 86.

Ngọ, better known to US servicemen as “Hanoi Hannah”, delivered daily broadcasts aimed at undermining American morale during the Việt Nam War.

Ngọ’s fame was associated with “Small talk to American GIs” radio programme, in which she spent 90 minutes everyday broadcasting to hundreds of thousands of American servicemen.

Ngọ was awarded the emeritus artist title and a medal for her contributions to the development of radio. — VNS
