HÀ NỘI – Candidates from the northern provinces will participate in the final round of the Miss Việt Nam 2016 pageant to be held on Tuần Châu Island in northern Quảng Ninh Province from July 11 to 17.

Some 40 contestants, aged 18 to 25, will participate and 18 finalists will be chosen for the national pageant’s final round to be held in HCM City between August 14 and 27.

The 18 top contestants will participate in charity work, helping the panel of jurists to decide on the title Miss Essence of Kindness.

The title holder will go straight into the top five and participate in the national pageant’s final night question-and-answer session.

“We want to respect kindness,” Phạm Kim Dung, deputy chairwoman of the Miss Việt Nam 2016 pageant, said. “Becoming Miss Essence of Kindness will help contestants get closer to the crown.”

This title is a new addition to the national beauty pageant, which has been held in Việt Nam since 1988.

In addition to the new category, the crown of the next Miss Việt Nam will also be new. The design, introduced at a press conference yesterday in Hà Nội, was made by the Long Beach Pearl Company. It includes 63 pearls and some 3,300 sapphire stones and is worth VNĐ2.2 billion (US$98,000).

The northern region’s final round will be hosted by stage director Hoàng Nhật Nam, who successfully hosted the southern region’s final night in HCM City on June 12.

The event will be aired live on Việt Nam Television’s channel 9 and 11 via local television studios.-VNS
