HCM CITY — A new theatre offering traditional shows aimed at visitors will be built in downtown HCM City next month.

The 180-seat theatre will be located in the Vertical Garden of Rex Hotel in District 1.

The investor, Rex Hotel, has worked with its partner, Thái Dương Performance Company, to build the theatre specialising in traditional performances such as water puppetry, royal dance in Huế style, and cải lương (reformed opera).

The Thái Dương Performance Company owns IDECAF Drama Stage, one of the region’s first and leading private drama troupes.

Phan Thanh Long, general director of Rex Hotel, said that local authorities had offered support to projects on traditional performances to introduce the culture and lifestyle of Việt Nam to visitors.

The theatre’s performances will include subtitles in nine languages, including English, French, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

The theatre is expected to open in August. The shows will begin at 8pm nightly and tickets will be VNĐ300,000 (US$23).  — VNS
