Collection of ancient Chinese books exhibited in HCM City

A set of six books written by a 14th century Chinese author and published in 1907 is being exhibited at HCM City’s Cá Chép Bookstore in District 1.

HCM CITY— A set of six books written by a 14th century Chinese author and published in 1907 is being exhibited at HCM City’s Cá Chép Bookstore in District 1.

The work, Tam Quốc Diễn Nghĩa (Romance of the Three Kingdoms), was written by Luo Guanzhong and translated into Vietnamese by Nguyễn Liên Phong.

It is one of 60 sets of 180 books with the same title, printed from 1907 till now, owned by collector Yên Ba.     

A series of Tam Quốc Diễn Nghĩa books from Ba’s collection is also on display at the event. Most of the books are in Vietnamese and French, and were published between 1928 and 1933.

Tam Quốc Diễn Nghĩa was translated by talented writers such as Phan Kế Bính, Nguyễn An Cư, Nguyễn Chánh Sắt and Nghiêm Xuân Lãm.

The work is popular among Vietnamese readers, adults and youth.

The translation by Bính in 1909 has been reprinted by the Đông A Books publishers. -- VNS
