Tourism Malaysia hosted a travel seminar-cum-mart in Hà Nội on March 24 aiming to introduce Malaysia as a shopping destination for tourists.

Speaking at the event, which gathered more than 150 representatives of local tourism companies, deputy director of Tourism Malaysia, Chong Yoke Har, said the event was among activities to promote Malaysia as the ultimate shopping heaven.

"The travel mart aims to provide a platform for Malaysian shopping industry players to meet up with Vietnamese travel agents and banks to develop shopping packages and networking," she said.

She also said the high frequency of direct flights between Việt Nam and Malaysia, as well as the diversified tourism spots in Malaysia would help to draw tourists.

At the event, 11 luxury shopping destinations were introduced to visitors.

According to Chong, Kuala Lumpur ranked 5th in Expedia UK’s worlds best shopping destination list in 2016, behind New York, Berlin, Los Angeles and London.

In 2012 and 2013, CNN voted Kuala Lumpur as the world’s 4th best shopping city, behind New York, Tokyo and London.

The city was also named 2nd Best Shopping Destination in Asia Pacific by the Globe Shopper Index in October 2012.

A similar event took place in the New World Saigon hotel in HCM City on March 25. – VNS
