Overseas Vietnamese writer expresses love and miss of Hà Nội through his books

HÀ NỘI -- The Literature Publishing House yesterday introduced overseas Vietnamese writer Mai Lâm’s three-book collection titled Từ Xa Hà Nội (Hà Nội From Afar).

Mai Lâm, 65, has been resettled in Germany for nearly 30 years. He wrote the collection to express his love and miss of his Hà Nội nativeland.

Among nearly hundreds of Lâm’s literature proses, he expressed a harassing longing of Hà Nội with deep memories such as corners of the city, his friends, his family and Hanoians’customs and habits.

Nguyễn Anh Vũ, director of the LPH said, "Lâm’s drafts are so interesting that I read it through the night and quickly decided to publish it."

" I like Lâm’s books because he is among very few authors writing about old Hà Nội and Vietnamese abroad so trusted and lively compared with others," Vũ said.

Writer Nguyễn Văn Thọ said Lâm helps to speak out overseas Vietnamese’s inmost feelings towards the nation.

Reader Nguyễn Văn Long, 60, said, " I saw myself and my generation in Lâm’s books. Thanks him a lot."

Lâm’s collection includes Từ Xa Hà Nội (published in 2014), Xa Rồi Ngày Xanh (Far from Green Days, 2015) and Chỉ Còn Tuyết Trắng (Only White Snow Remained, 2016).

Lâm graduated from the Việt Nam Music Conservatory now National Academy of Music in 1971 and resettled in Germany since 1987.

Apart from books, his albums Hà Nội Mùa Thu Sớm (Hà Nội’s Early Autumn) and Từ Xa Hà Nội have also been published in Việt Nam.-- VNS
