Climate change art in the spotlight

HCM CITY  (VNS) — Six films, three photo exhibitions, three conferences and three activities related to the issue of climate change will be held in HCM City and Ha Noi to accompany the COP21 International Climate Change Conference to be held in Paris.

From November 30 to December 11, world leaders and representatives from over 190 countries will be meeting in Paris for the United Nations 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21). The aim is to agree to a global legally binding climate treaty.

The French Institute in Viet Nam, French Embassy in Viet Nam, French Consulate in HCM City, and the French Development Agency (AFD) yesterday held a press briefing in HCM City about the activities.

Twenty-one photographs taken by Yann Arthus-Bertrand will be exhibited at L'Espace in Ha Noi from today to November 24.

The 60 Solutions to Climate Change photo exhibition depicts innovative, practical solutions that blend climate change mitigation and economic development, according to a representative of AFD.

The exhibition will also take place at the French Consulate in HCM City from November 30 to December 8.

The 21 photos, along with another exhibition dedicated to the 20-year presence of AFD in Viet Nam, will take place at the Industry University in HCM City from December 9 to 23.

In addition, a conference discussion dealing with Official Development Aid strategies to address climate change consequences in Vietnamese rural areas will take place today at L'Espace, and at the Industry University in HCM City in December 9.

Previously, a painting exhibition titled The Earth in My Hands revealing visions of students aged 12 to 18 years from Nguyen Tat Thanh High School, and a film entitled Il Etait une Foret (Miraculous Forest) were held at L'Espace in Ha Noi.

This Sunday, a film by Jacques-Remy Girerd, La prophetie des grenouilles (The Prophecy of Frogs), will be screened at L'Espace.

In HCM City, a series of activities on film-discussion-quiz Tournee Climatique (Climate Journey) from Live&Learn which aims at "connecting youth and experts" will be held at the HCM City University of Natural Sciences next week.

A simulation of the International Climate Change Conference will be organised at Lotus University tomorrow with the participation of 50 English-speaking students.

Marine Herrmann from the LEGOS Laboratory in Ha Noi, Ho Long Phi from HCM City Centre of Water Management and Climate Change, and Pham Thi Huong Lam from Ha Noi University of Water Resources will discuss the science conference Rivers to Ocean: Impact of Climate Change in Viet Nam at the HCM City University of Polytechnic on November 26.

French Volunteer Days, hosted by France Volontaires, will include conferences about coping with climate change and sustainable development projects in Viet Nam on Saturday at the French Institute in HCM City.

Volunteers from France Volontaires will visit the Can Gio Mangrove Swamp on Sunday.

In addition, a week-long programme starting from November 23 will discuss climate change in French to youth at all high schools with bilingual classes, and at the Power Up programme two days later at the Cargo Bar in District 4, which will discuss sustainable power sources for future. — VNS
