HCM CITY (VNS) — With an amazing, innocent, and pure voice like an angel, a nine-year-old girl from Da Nang has won the third season of The Voice Kid Vietnam.
Trinh Nguyen Hong Minh, who won 50,75 per cent audience vote, beat two other male rivals, the 12-year-old boy Nguyen Cong Quoc and the 11-year-old Nguyen Trong Tien Quang to become the winner.
Together with the title, the girl also received a VND500 million (US$22,000) prize, while both the boys shared the second prize, receiving VND100 million each.
The finale on Saturday night was opened with the performance of Quang – a team member of composer Duong Khac Linh. He sang pridefully the patriotic tune Viet Nam Tren Duong Chung Ta Di (Viet Nam on the Way Ahead) by Huy Du.
Minh, who was coached by the composer and singer couple Ho Hoai Anh and Luu Huong Giang, amazed the audience with her well-trained performance featuring the Hue royal ritual singing tunes, which are not easy even for adult singers to sing. The girl also showed off her skill on dan tranh (16-string zither), playing it to accompany her singing.
Minh, whose was given the nickname "Cong Chua Toc May" by the media and audience referring to the character Princess Rapunzel in the animation Tangled thanks to her long hair, then had a duet performance with her idol, guest singer My Tam, to present the song Giot Suong (The Dew).
Quoc, who is under the guidance of singer Cam Ly, performed the emotional folk tune Neo Dau Ben Que and Long Me (Homeland's Wharf and Mother's Love).
Along with their solo acts, each rival also had performances with their coaches and team members.
The boy Quang was reunited with other eliminated team members to stage an energetic mashup featuring the songs Dua Com Cho Me Di Cay – Bac Ho Nguoi Cho Em Tat Ca – We Are the World.
The scene of the southern Mekong Delta region was replicated on The Voice Kid stage when coach Cam Ly and her student Quoc performed the folk mashup Chiec Ao Ba Ba – Bai Ca Dat Phuong Nam (The Southern-style Blouse – The Song of Southern Land).
The night also featured a duet performance of "Queen of Dance Music" – guest singer Thu Minh, and finalist Quang, who sang Uoc Mo (The Wish) by Hong Kien. — VNS
