HCM CITY  (VNS) — An event calling for young people to have an environmentally friendly lifestyle will be held in HCM City on Sunday.

The event is a part of the campaign "Living Simple", which includes interactive activities on the occasion of the visit of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa of the Drukpa Order to the Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in the city.

Young people will have a chance to hear about the art of living happily, the advantages of protecting the environment, and the secret of living simply.

The campaign "Living Simple" is organised by the Centre of Hands-on Action and Networking for Growth and Environment, the Global Divestment campaign 350.org, and Young Drukpa Association (YDA) Viet Nam.

It aims to create awareness and passion among the Vietnamese community, especially young people, about environmental protection.

Many well-known Vietnamese artists, including singers Ha Okio and Mai Khoi, models Truong Thi May, Hoang Quyen, Tang Nhat Tue and Phuong Mai, and journalist Trac Thuy Mieu, have sent private photo collections reflecting a "simple" style and messages calling for environmental protection.

Others artists such as Thanh Bui, Ho Quynh Huong, Hoang Bach, Nhat Thuy and Anna Truong have responded to the campaign by sharing their messages on social media. The messages are mostly about riding bicycles, eating vegetarian food, saving electricity, planting trees, restricting use of plastic bags, saving water and using optimal air conditioners and recycled products.

The messages began appearing on social media from last Friday. They will continue until tomorrow.

"We live in nature, or rather we are part of nature," His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa of the Drukpa Order has said. — VNS
