HCM CITY  (VNS) — Students from colleges and universities in HCM City have been invited to join the second Film Festival for Students launched by the city's Students Association this week.

The event is designed to give students an opportunity to explore their creativity in film and video. The organisers will give prizes for best short film, short news report, music video and public relations trailer.

Films featuring social and environmental issues as well as climate change have been encouraged.

A jury panel including dozens of skilled directors and cinematographers from film studios and cinematography schools will choose the winners from 15 finalists.

The best films will be screened later in cinemas.

Participants can work alone or in a group. They can submit their works via the website www.hoisinhvienTPHCM.com or at 4 Alexandre de Rhodes Street, District 1, before December 4.

In 2003, the festival attracted 99 short films, documentaries and video clips. All works featured stories related to the dreams and hopes of youth.

The first prize went to two short films, Noted and Uoc Mo Va Nhung Cung Duong Nguoc Chieu Dai Lo (The Dream and Challenges), sent by student groups from the HCM City University of Foreign Trade and University of Social Science and Humanities, respectively. Both works targeted youth and their lifestyles. — VNS
