HCM CITY (VNS) — Six historical and legendary plays will be restaged this week by the IDECAF Drama Troupe in HCM City, as part of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations around the city.

The works all feature historic events and national heroes, and are aimed at young audiences.

"We wanted to encourage children and teenagers to learn about the country's history and theatre," said the troupe's director Huynh Anh Tuan.

"Our performances are targeted to primary and secondary school students at a discount, with tickets priced at VND100,000 (nearly US$5) for upstairs seats and VND150,000 ($7) for downstairs," he said.

The organisers will also present free toys to members of the audience.

Meritorious Artist Huu Chau and Thanh Loc, and skilled actors My Duyen, Hoang Trinh, Bach Long and Dinh Toan will continue their performance in the leading roles.

Dozens of dancers and puppet artists will also be featured.

Their performances will take place at Ben Thanh Theatre, 6 Mac Dinh Chi Street in District 1, every Saturday and Sunday night this month.

The IDECAf plans to offer historic plays for more than 1,000 students at primary schools next month. The tickets will be offered at only VND15,000 each.

"We have received support from the city's Department of Education and Training to launch our performances at schools," Tuan said. — VNS
